Sound Like Your Kid?

You want your child to have something real — not just another activity that gets abandoned after a few weeks. But it's hard to know what actually works, and you don't want to hand them off to a program that's all trophies and no substance, or one that's too rough for a kid just starting out.

You worry about bullying — whether your child could handle themselves if a situation ever got physical.
You want more than screen time — something structured that builds real focus, discipline, and physical confidence.
You've tried activities that didn't stick and you're wary of committing time and money to another one.

More Than Martial Arts

Kids jiu-jitsu at 10th Planet Denver isn't about teaching children to fight. It's about giving them the tools to never have to. When a child knows they can handle themselves, fear shrinks. When fear shrinks, they move through school, friendships, and life more confidently.

Our curriculum is built around the adult Fundamentals program — scaled for kids. Every class is structured, purposeful, and fun. We teach real grappling skills in a safe environment where children are coached, not chaos-managed. It's exactly the kind of program that sticks.

Our kids program is led by head coach Conor Heun — a 3rd Degree Eddie Bravo Black Belt, retired professional MMA fighter, and certified IBJJF referee. Conor brings the same precision and passion he applies to his adult programs to every kids class, creating an environment where children are empowered to learn, make mistakes, and grow at their own pace.

What Your Child Builds

Confidence Under Pressure
Kids who know they can handle physical confrontation are less intimidated and less likely to be bullied — or to bully others.
Bully-Proof Skills
Ground-based self-defense gives kids practical tools for the most common physical situations they face at school and on the playground.
Focus & Discipline
Every class requires listening, following instructions, and concentrating on technique. Kids carry this focus into the classroom.
Respect
We teach honor, discipline, and respect as core values alongside every technique. These aren't posters on the wall — they're lived on the mat.
Physical Fitness
Coordination, balance, body control, strength, and cardio all improve naturally through jiu-jitsu training — without a kid ever feeling like they're "working out."
A Community
Your child becomes part of a team. The friendships made on the mat are some of the strongest — built on shared challenge and mutual respect.

Parents Ask

What age can my child start jiu-jitsu?
We accept children starting at age 3 and a half. Our youngest class (Kids Under 6) is specifically designed for ages 3–5 with age-appropriate drills and structure. Kids 7 and up join a more technique-focused curriculum.
Is jiu-jitsu safe for kids?
Yes. Jiu-jitsu is one of the safest martial arts for children because it focuses on control and technique rather than striking. There is no punching or kicking. All live drilling is closely supervised and conducted at age-appropriate intensity. Safety is our top priority on the mat.
My child has never done martial arts. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Most kids start with zero experience. Our classes are designed for beginners and every child learns at their own pace. Coach Conor is experienced at making new students feel comfortable and capable from day one.
Will jiu-jitsu make my child more aggressive?
The opposite, in our experience. Children who develop real confidence and skill are less reactive, less anxious, and less likely to lash out. We also emphasize respect and discipline as core values in every class — kids who train here learn when NOT to use what they know.
What should my child wear?
Athletic clothes they can move in — shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or rash guard. No shoes on the mat. No gi (uniform) required. We train no-gi, so there's no equipment to buy before trying the class.
How much does it cost?
Your child's first class is completely free. Ongoing membership options include family plan pricing at $120/week for the whole family. Individuals train for between $39.99 and $59.99 per week and additional family members save $10 per week. Teachers, military, and first responders also receive a $5/week discount.
